When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her study of marine biology in Anchorage from Alaska Pacific University. Bossard began her commercial seafood career in 1999, after she was hired on board the F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner that was converted into the role of a salmon tender is owned by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard and Aritan have been married since 1993 and have joined forces in claiming their share of their respective industries. They are both proponents conservation of sustainable, renewable seafood resources. Otolith opened its direct market wholesale distributor in Philadelphia after Bossard was able to return from home with her two daughters, Bella 3 years old and Andre 1year old, to Philadelphia. The name Otolith serves as a fond reference to Bossard's extensive experience with fish biology as well as her husband's vast connections to the seafood business. They are often separated for up to 5 months at a stretch while they pursue sustainable and financial goals that reflect their commitment to their independence no matter where they reside.
